Maybe your child is anxious or bored. The first thing to do is to find out the reason why your child is fidgeting. If he has nothing to do, involve him or her in an activity that will hold his or her attention. If he is taking the remote while you are watching television shows that he finds boring, he is bound to find something to entertain himself. Give him books or a toy and keep him occupied. If the child is very interested in a particular object (for instance the TV remote), give him a dummy of the same piece or an old piece so she can pretend-play with it. Also clearly but calmly explain to him that this behavior is not acceptable. Try and give him a treat or reward every time they listen to you. Despite all efforts, if the fidgeting does not improve, but seems excessive, consult a doctor.
